Library:
The Library at Velammal Institute of Technology contains more than 12,836 volumes of text and reference books on 3,097 different titles and 128 National and International Journals/Magazines.The books are arranged and Classified according to the Universal Decimal Classification Scheme.
Open access system is followed in the library.The Library is well equipped with a 780 number of Educational CDs on Science, Engineering and Management.The library is well ventilated , well lighted and spacious, with a total floor area of about 1860 Sq.mt.The Reading Hall which is fully air-conditioned , has been designed to create a wonderful atmosphere for reading.
Facilities:
STOCK ROOM WITH READING HALL:
The stock room is well equipped, multistoried, open adjustable modern book stacks for housing the books for reference and lending. The books are classified according to the Universal Decimal Classification. Bay guides are available for easy access to books, and all books are arranged properly. Open access system is followed which makes the process of locating books very easy for the students.
CIRCULATION SECTION:
The circulation section consists of three computers with barcode scanners for issue, return and renewal of books. All the library transactions are computerized; enquiries regarding availability of books are made in the circulation section.
TECHNICAL SECTION:
A spacious technical section with well furnished is provided to carry out the works such as books accessing, classifying the books, preparation of data entry sheet and other related technical works for newly purchased books and journals.
REPROGRAPHY SECTION:
The College Library is provided with a plain paper copier to provide REPROGRAPHY SERVICE to users. The users are benefited in getting the photocopy of the information required from the library documents at a nominal cost .
PERIODICAL SECTION:
Contains both Technical and Non-Technical Journals of National and International origin are displayed and kept available for the reference of students and faculty members.
REFERENCE SECTION:
The library consists of about 720 reference books on all Engineering branches, Science, Humanities, English and Encyclopedia & Dictionaries. The library also has a collection of rare books.
READING HALL:
The Reading Hall has been designed to create a wonderful atmosphere for reading. The Reading Hall consists of comfortable tables & chairs with a seating capacity for 125 users. Students are permitted to bring books and journals from the stacks for doing reference work.

• CURRENT AWARENESS SERVICE
Library takes pride in serving the users and helping them to get required information within the short span of time. Yes! It is the Current Awareness Service (CAS). Library display job opportunities, academic related matters and our college campus events etc.
Some time the field of interest has been collected from the users and they are informed when the information arrives in the particular book or journal.
• COMPETITIVE EXAM GUIDES
A number of guides are available in both reference and issue sections for preparation of competitive Exams like ; GATE, Civil service exam, UGC, TOEFL, GMAT, GRE, Railway, Bank exams and similar exams.
• ONLINE PUBLIC ACCESS CATALOGUE (OPAC )
All the library transactions are computerized and On-Line Public Access Catalogue has been introduced. Users can search the books details via author wise search, title wise search, subject wise search, and how many copies are available in a particular title and who has taken the books and when it will be returned.
• ONLINE JOURNALS BROWSING
In addition to the Online journals facilities , IEEE/IEL and EBSCO package are available
in the multimedia section along with Internet facility.
• BAR CODE INDENTITY CARD
For easy transaction, bar coded identity cards are issued to all the library members and bar code labels are pasted in the library resources for quick and accurate transactions.
• NEWS PAPER CLIPPING SERVICES
Newspaper cuttings of academic related matters, job opportunities and Velammal Institute of Technology advertisements are collected periodically and displayed in the notice board. The abstract of various seminars and special lectures conducted in the institution are also published in the engagement column of the main news papers like ; THE HINDU , The Indian Express etc.
